Our Student Representative Council had organised the drive in partnership with the National Zakat Foundation to support and provide newly arrived Afghan refugees with prayer mats and Qur'ans. Student Leaders have collected, sorted, and packed more than 250 Holy Qur'ans and prayer rugs sets during lunch hours in August and September.
On the student free day of Friday, 16 September 2022, twelve of our SRCs student leaders arranged the packing of the final items and loaded them onto the bus, ready to be delivered directly to the Afghan community at Omar Farooq Mosque in Doveton. Students travelled over an hour each way and also joined the Afghan community of the South-Eastern suburbs in their Jummah prayer.
Students set up the tables for the distribution of prayer rugs, Qur'ans and gifts for the community. Our early years students in Year 1 and Year 2 had made heart warming 鈥淲elcome鈥 cards for the Afghan community which were handed out with the distribution of gifts.
It was a very enriching experience for all students present to interact with the Afghan refugee community who shared some of their personal life experiences with them.
We would like to thank the Al Siraat community sincerely for their generous donations and for their ongoing support.
